Join Landcare for Lismore’s biggest community tree planting! Now in its 21st year, National Tree Day will be held for the first time at Lismore’s largest wetland, the South Lismore Duck Pond. Formerly grazing land, a community swimming spot, a football training ground and then a sand quarry, the Duck Pond has been undergoing a radical transformation from a Coral tree and weedy vine infested wasteland with the help of the South Lismore and Duck Pond Landcare Group.
“The wetland is amazing” said member of the group Derek Goodwin. “On any given day you can see cranes, Spoonbills, ducks, moorhens and if you are lucky the rare Black-necked stork”.
“Recently we have been given support from Conservation Volunteers Australia with a Green Army team. It has been amazing support and the site is now ready for everyone to join in and plant some trees with us at Lismore Tree Day”.

National Tree Day will have a festival feel with the Duck Pond undergoing a transformation into community parklands. Thanks to the support of Lismore City Council there will be over 1000 trees to be planted on the day. The day will be one for the whole family, with information stalls, a kids activity area, music and a free BBQ kindly provided by the Lismore Lions Club. Coffee Addictions will be selling fresh coffee to keep everyone’s energy up, so bring some spare change!
